The heritage site at Weston-sub-Edge is a Scheduled Ancient Monument — one of the highest levels of protection given to any site in England. But that protection cannot prevent a private landowner from blocking access and allowing the site to deteriorate.
The only permanent solution is for the community — through WSE Heritage CIC — to own the land outright. Once in community ownership, the site can be properly managed, the moat restored, archaeological work commissioned, and public access guaranteed forever.
